The ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ John Cena enjoys a fandom that many wrestlers don’t. Many have found inspiration in him, common folks and celebrities alike. So it did not come as a surprise when the NFL side Kansas City Chief’s star player Patrick Mahomes made a gesture synonymous with Cena. And the WWE legend shared an image of the aforementioned gesture on his Instagram account in a typical cryptic fashion. It was a celebratory night for Mahomes as his side won the Super Bowl LVII against Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 in a tense encounter.

The quarterback was the center of attention for the final as he played a deciding role in the win. His callback to the 16-time world champion naturally turned a lot of heads. During the intense match, Mahomes performed Cena’s iconic ‘You Can’t See Me‘ sign. This sent the watching audience as well as the social media into a frenzy. It has once again proven that The Cenation Leader’s popularity truly knows no bounds.

Controversy marred the finish of the match

A win did not come for the Chiefs without a fair share of controversy over the holding penalty that was awarded in the dying embers. The man that committed the foul James Bradberry has since acknowledged it was the right call as per USA Today.

Undoubtedly, it turned out to be the decisive moment in the closely fought contest. The Kansas City Chiefs won the title for the second time in four years.

The historic win wouldn’t have been possible without the heroics of Mahomes. And his Cena reference made the moment even more joyous for the fans.

After a WWE career that spanned more than 15 years, Cena knows what it takes to succeed at the very top. His uber popularity means that his transition of career to Hollywood has been quite easy for him.
