Dwayne Johnson has his hands in a lot of pies. Whether it be his upcoming movie projects or any production gig, the actor always gives his full effort. That is the case with the football league XFL too which Johnson co-owns.

The competition kicked off in February just after the NFL season closed. It was definitely meant to attract the football fanatics who would be devoid of any action on the NFL front. There has been a massive intrigue as to how the XFL has performed till now. And Johnson has now come up with an update on the viewership for the league.

The 10-time WWE champion took to his Instagram to give followers a sneak peek into the league’s showing. There was an image of Johnson in the post, along with a host of famous leagues that the XFL outperformed. It read, “XFL CONTINUES VIEWERSHIP MOMENTUM OUTDRAWS NFL COMBINE, NHL, MLS.”

“Yeah ok. Whatever you say Rock. Try this sh*t during NFL season and let’s see how much momentum you get.”

“Bs, I don’t even know where to watch it. Lol”

“People love watching a car crash too”

“The bar is LOW”

It’s certainly a huge achievement to leave behind some of the most-watched sports leagues in the US, which includes the NHL and MLS. Doing so in such a short span deserves huge commendations. This also might be the reason behind fans’ apprehension about the XFL’s unprecedented success. Especially, The Brahma Bull’s claim of overtaking the NFL combine.

It’s common knowledge that the football league was started by former WWE chairman Vince McMahon in 2001. But due to various issues, it was forced to close. Hall of Famer Kurt Angle once provided his opinion on why the ‘Vinnie-Mac’ led venture failed back then. The XFL made a comeback in 2o2o as well.

How did the initial XFL 2023 viewership numbers fare against the XFL 2020?

The inaugural game in the 2020 rendition between D.C. Defenders and Seattle Dragons saw an average of 3.3 million viewers. The second game that same day drew an average of 3.29 million viewers as per The Athletic. The sudden onset of the global pandemic spelled the end for that iteration. Johnson’s version of the competition saw Vegas Vipers and Arlington Renegades battle it out in the first match.

The second encounter was between St. Louis Battlehawks and San Antonio Brahmas. However, the matches recorded fewer numbers than in 2020, with 1.5 million as the average viewer number for both.
