“I’m Not Blowing Out a Pec”: NFL Legend Immediately Pulls Out From Challenging The Rock in a Bench Press Competition After Seeing Dwayne Johnson’s Reply

The ongoing saga of Dwayne The Rock Johnson and an NFL legend continues as the man in question replied to Johnson. The NFL veteran issued a challenge to The Rock for a bench press competition. Johnson replied to the star in the most humble way possible. However, to everyone’s surprise, the veteran pulled out of the competition.

Now, The Great One is a big guy and can lift heavy weights, but what made the NFL veteran call off the competition?

Shannon Sharpe says no to competing with The Rock

While on the CBS talk show, The Talk, NFL legend and star commentator Shannon Sharpe jokingly issued a bench press challenge to Johnson. The talk show posted the clip to social media and Johnson saw it. Taking the time, The Rock replied to the post.

Being the humble person he is, The Rock replied by saying he would bet his money on Sharpe. Not only does this show how respectful The Rock is, but he never gives a definite answer. Johnson even called Sharpe ‘the GOAT’. Fans were delighted to see this response from The Great One.

However, it didn’t take long for Sharpe to respond to The Rock’s comment. Sharpe said, “I’m not blowing out a pec. I’ve gone 2 long w/o a lifting injury not trying 2 get 1 now.” Sharpe is an advocator for not pushing your body beyond what it can take. He is someone who practices safe workouts.

Sharpe did mention on the show that it was over a year since he did a bench press. Despite claiming if he got a month, he could challenge The Rock, Sharpe pulled out of the challenge. He ended by saying, “Let’s grab a workout with nothing on the line, but a good lift.” This showed real sportsmanship between professional athletes. Johnson can take Sharpe up on this offer but the need of the hour is something different for the Hollywood star.

Wrestling fans have been clamoring for The Rock’s return to WWE and they got their wish fulfilled in the recent past.

Johnson’s WWE return and disappearance

Johnson returned to the squared circle on Friday, September 15, 2023. This sparked a tidal wave of speculations that he was here to feud with Roman Reigns. However, since his appearance, there hasn’t been any confirmation of any possible storyline.

While fans speculate that the WWE is waiting for their PLE Crown Jewel to decide what to do with The Rock, others have their own theory. Johnson returned just like John Cena due to the writer’s strike. However, some of his projects in progress might be moving forward due to which The Rock does not have time for the WWE.
