Since the inception of Dwayne Johnson and ex-wife’s XFL business, it has seen hardships. The first season saw massive layoffs and huge financial losses. Despite all of this, the two are confident in making back the losses next year.

According to Forbes, the XFL lost around $60 million in 2023. The year 2023 has not been kind to the league. With dwindling numbers and viewership, experts say this was a low for the spring league. The XFL is looking forward to its next season, and Johnson and Garcia are confident in its success.

The XFL is currently battling with big names like the USFL for the title of spring football league supremacy. Despite drawing in 1.43 million viewers on ABC, the numbers for this season have declined. For most football leagues in its initial season, this should be worrying.

However, this has not phased the co-owners, Johnson and Garcia. They believe they will make back the losses as profits in the following year. This is because of the capital commitment of ESPN’s $20 million annual payment and sponsorship deals.

The Hollywood star also plans on employing several strategies to overcome the XFL’s competition.

The strategies Johnson’s XFL uses to beat the competition

Johnson’s XFL has eight teams in different markets which look to capitalize on the local fan base. This is something big names are not interested in doing. The USFL mainly focuses on hub cities like Detroit, Memphis, Canton, etc. Earlier this month, The Rock hinted at bringing in Colin Kaepernick, but that did not pan out.

The BC Lions from the Canadian Football League swooped in to place Colin Kaepernick on their negotiation list. The wait period for players on this list is 45 days before anything is finalized. Despite all this, Johnson, during an interview, said, “This is legacy. This is the long game.” This hinted at his determination to continue the league despite the obstacles.
