Once the brainchild of Vince McMahon, Johnson, along with Dany Garcia, his ex-wife and longtime business partner, and RedBird Capital Partners, bought the brand in 2020 for $15 million. Johnson has been a vocal advocate for the XFL, ensuring its focus on player opportunity and innovation. He has also used his star power to help promote the league, appearing in XFL games and events.

On Instagram, Johnson posted, “As a league owner – I just want to deliver amazing spring football to the fans, create incredible opportunities for the players.” This comes after the XFL and USFL merged operations to form the United Football League (UFL). Fans were excited about this venture as it brought more opportunity and a better quality product.

Johnson ended the post by saying, “Thank you to everyone out there for all the amazing support. Boys are back. March 30th.” The season will kick off on March 30, 2024, and end on June 2, 2024. The season will feature eight teams from both the XFL and USFL will compete. Despite being divided into two teams, the entity is one.
