You will have many stories to tell when you are the son of the first African American to win the WWE Tag Team Championship. Not only a trailblazer but Rocky Johnson, the father of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, was a wrestling icon back in the 70s and 80s. The man who inspired The Great One and an embodiment of hard work certainly overcame several obstacles to do so. Rocky Johnson cemented a legacy that not many can follow. However, according to The Rock, this came from his childhood, which was harder than his road to success.

Dwayne Johnson reveals how his father was about to kill a man at 13

While on the Artist Friendly, Episode 62 of the Veeps podcast, Johnson talked about his father. The host, Joel Madden, who had a similar strained relationship with his father resonated to Johnson’s words. He talked about how his father’s form of love differed from the norm. Moreover, the Hollywood star explained why it was that way. Johnson told the story of what happened when his father was thirteen. He lived with his mother, The Rock’s grandmother, and her boyfriend. Rocky Johnson’s father had just passed away, which put him in a precarious situation.

The story occurred during the time of Christmas when an incident between the boyfriend and thirteen-year-old Rocky Johnson changed his life forever. The boyfriend was intoxicated and urinated over the turkey, which drove Johnson mad, resulting in a fight between the two. As The Rock said, “My dad went outside and drew a line in the dirt and then took a shovel and said, if you cross that, I’m gonna kill you.” The boyfriend being intoxicated crossed the line and was laid out by the future icon of the wrestling business. This led to the police intervening. They told Rocky’s mother that when the boyfriend would wake up, her son and the boyfriend would end up killing each other. Rock continued, “My grandmother that time looked at my dad, who was 13, and was like, you’re out.”

This, according to The Rock, was where Rocky turned into the man he grew up to be. At thirteen years of age, his mother kicked him out, and he was homeless. This is where he lost the love he had inside him and didn’t express it in the way The Rock expected.
