The former WWE Chairman, Vince McMahon, ran a tight ship when he was in charge of WWE. From wrestlers to commentators, everyone knew there was little margin for error with McMahon. A former WWE referee, revealed what it was like when officiating matches involving the ex-WWE CEO.


Mike Chioda was with WWE for nearly three decades. He was one of the longest tenured officials in the company and officiated several memorable matches.

Chioda also refereed a lot of McMahon’s matches during his career.

He recently revealed how his former boss would cause him to stress out in the ring when he was officiating his matches.

Vince McMahon always expected officials to know their roles

Mike Chioda explained how the 77-year-old always expected officials to know their roles inside the ring. He said that this would cause him to stress out.

The 56-year-old recalled that on Monday Mailbag podcast, by saying, “You’re stressed with Vince in the ring, you don’t want to f*ck up. If he asks for a spot or asks for something like, ‘Hey, what’s next?’ you better, you better know it, you know what I’m saying? What I like about Vince is when Vince asks you to do something, you say I can get it done.”

Chioda also said he became even more nervous after Vince got older and became more susceptible to injury: “I remember the day he blew out his quads in the ring, just walking down to the ring, you know, he got in the ring and blew out his quads.”

WWE decided to release Chioda from the company in 2020, due to budget cuts.

He was one of the well-known officials in the business and conducted many historic matches during his tenure with WWE.

McMahon often put people on the spot and expecting them to deliver. Many former employees have talked about how he micromanaged everything.

Wrestlers had their promos written out for them in detail, while commentators would frequently hear McMahon spitting orders in their headsets during broadcast.

McMahon, who was pivotal in making pro wrestling the brand it is today, recently stepped down as WWE CEO over hush money allegations.

Despite stepping away from WWE, Vince continues to be in the news. He was spotted recently celebrating his 77th birthday with a mysterious woman while many WWE personalities such as John Cena, Brock Lesnar, and Pat McAfee also attended the party.
