“Yelled at for Being Successful” – Nikki Bella Exposes WWE’s Actions for Not Being Able to Control the Bella Twins’ Success in 2013

Former WWE Superstar and ex-fiancee of John Cena, Nikki Bella was one of the top female stars on the roster. Nikki Bella and her twin sister, Brie Bella, had a good run at the top of the Women’s division and established themselves as integral members of the roster. However, a few years ago, both sisters announced their retirement from the sport after making their debut in 2008. Recently, Nikki Bella appeared on a podcast and talked about her experience while working in the WWE.

Nikki and Brie Bella were extremely successful and won championships as well. But after they won the 2013 WWE Diva of the year, things were not the same for the sisters. Nikki Bella recalled the things that happened to them after winning the award.

Speaking The Sessions podcast hosted by Renee Paquette, Nikki Bella opened up about her and her sister’s experience in WWE. The twins not only had success in the ring but also brought more attention to the product due to their roles in the Total Divas and Total Bellas reality shows.

After receiving the award, the twins had to face a lot of backlash backstage. Nikki Bella claimed that Vince McMahon had lost control of what he could make and what he could not. She further revealed how they got yelled at backstage after winning the award.

Nikki Bella said, “I remember, we came back so happy, and it was, ‘Oh, because you brought in all these new viewers and the women are now voting for you and all these new women are here.’ [Jaw] on the floor. Everyone around was on the floor like, ‘The Bella Twins are getting yelled at for being successful.’”

She further talked about how WWE was not able to control the success of Total Divas, and as per her, there was a lot of envy and jealousy backstage because of that. WWE usually likes to control the success and reach of its stars, but with Total Divas, the Bellas had become slightly more mainstream as compared to other women on the roster and as such may have faced some difficult times backstage.

Will The Bella Twins return to WWE in the future?

Both Brie and Nikki Bella retired from WWE in 2019. While Brie Bella retired because of her moving into motherhood, and other injuries, it was back and neck injuries, along with a brain cyst that sealed the deal for Nikki Bella.

Both the former superstars came out of their retirement in 2022 at the Women’s Royal Rumble for a one-time appearance. Both sisters are yet to return full-time. But given the seriousness of their injuries and the fact they have been doing well for themselves outside the ring, it is highly doubtful that the sisters might return in that capacity for now.
