The first night of WrestleMania 37 was quite eventful. Following a delay from the rain, the show started and ended with two title matches. There were a total of seven matches on the first night.

There were quite a few title changes, some shocking moments as well as some botches. Here, we will look back at those matches briefly.

#1 Bobby Lashley (c) (with MVP) defeated Drew McIntyre – WWE Championship

The pay-per-view opened with the WWE title match. This was the first time Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley came face to face. Both men tried to overpower the other in a battle of the titans.

McIntyre hit three Future Shock DDTs back-to-back. Before he could hit his Claymore kick, MVP distracted him from ringside. Lashley took the advantage and applied the Hurt Lock till McIntyre passed out. Lashley, hence, won by technical submission.

#2 Tag Team Turmoil match for a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Titles

Five tag teams in total participated in the match. Two teams started the match and when one of them was eliminated, another team took their place until no team was left. It was basically a tag-team version of the gauntlet match.

Carmella and Billie Kay defeated the first Team Ravishing Glow (Lana and Naomi). Soon, Riott Squad (Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan) eliminated both the teams of Carmella and Kay and Dana Brooke with Mandy Rose. For the first team, Riott Squad used a gutbuster/back stomp combo, and for the second team, there was an inside cradle which led to some confusion.

It all came down to Natalya and Tamina vs the Riott Squad. Despite Riott Squad’s incessant efforts, Natalya and Tamina won after Tamina pinned Liv following a Superfly Splash. They will face Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler for the titles at Night 2.

#3 Cesaro defeated Seth Rollins

In his first singles match at WrestleMania, Cesaro had a lot to prove. Not only did he aim to break his “swing record” but he also looked forward to teaching Seth Rollins a lesson.

Cesaro initially tried the swing but could not continue because of his arm. After Rollins broke through the “Swiss Cyborg’s” sharpshooter, he also countered Cesaro’s Neutralizer into a pedigree for a near fall.

However, Cesaro came through and caught Rollins with an uppercut. Cesaro then spun Rollins with the UFO and the Cesaro Swing in a record 23 times. Cesaro then got the win after a second Neutralizer on Rollins.

#4 AJ Styles and Omos defeated The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) (c) – RAW Tag Team Championship

The first title change of the night happened in this match. The New Day initially dominated AJ Styles, but the course changed as soon as Omos took the lead.

In the in-ring debut of Omos, he put the Tag Team champions to dust single-handedly. He and Styles won the titles in the shortest match of the night following a chokeslam from Omos to Kingston.

#5 Braun Strowman defeated Shane McMahon

In this steel cage match, dubbed as “Brains vs Braun”, Strowman hit back against the bullying of Shane-O-Mac. After some interruptions from Ryker and Elias, the ‘Monster among Men’ showed some incredible bouts of strength.

Not only did Strowman rip the steel cage with his bare hands, but he also threw Shane from the top of the steel cage into the mat. Following this dangerous spot, Strowman hit a running powerslam for the win on Shane.

#2 Bad Bunny and Damian Priest defeated The Miz and John Morrison

In the penultimate match of the night, Grammy Winning artist Bad Bunny made his in-ring debut in WWE. For a first-timer, Bunny performed quite well and hit some quality moves on Miz and Morrison.

Initially, the latter team kept Bunny apart from tagging to Priest. However, after the tag-in, Bunny and Priest hit the ‘Broken Arrow’ on both their opponents for a near-fall.

Miz almost got the pin following a Skull-Crushing finale on Priest, but Bunny rushed in at the right moment to break the pin. In the end, Bunny and Priest performed an Electric Chair Drop/Crossbody combination on Miz, and Bunny got the pin for the victory.

#1 Bianca Belair defeated Sasha Banks (c) – SmackDown Women’s Championship

In the main event of the night, Sasha and Bianca made history as the women main-evented Mania for the second time. This was the first time that two African American women faced each other in the main event of WrestleMania.

The match was also similar to the first match of the night. It was a battle of equals, and there was equal opportunity for both women. But Bianca ultimately got the last laugh as she won her first Women’s Title in WWE. “The EST” hit a KOD on “The Boss” to garner the victory.
