“The wrestling business has a unique way of allowing us to cross paths with so many different people from a so many different walks of life. And on 11/14/2014 in Milan, Italy, we got the chance to cross paths with this kind, gentle and genuinely happy soul. I’ll never forget his energy. RIP champ,” wrote Kofi.

Hagler was an inspiration to many athletes who wanted to make a career in boxing. In his fourteen-year career, Hagler fought 67 fights and won 62 of them. His most iconic victory came against Britain’s Alan Minter in Wembley stadium, which won him the WBC and WBA championship belts.

He dominated the middleweight division for a long time but lost to fellow boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard. The match against Sugar Ray went right down to the wire, but Hagler lost controversially. The last judge awarded ten out of the twelve rounds to Sugar Ray and later claimed he made a mistake.
