The overnight ratings of WWE Smackdown are out, and the results are simply exceptional. WWE Smackdown aired live from Tulsa, Oklahoma last week, featuring some of the biggest stars in WWE. The show was jam-packed with fierce promos, contract signings, a title change, and more. But the major limelight for last week’s Smackdown fell on the face-off between Roman Reigns and John Cena.

WWE SmackDown draws exceptional overnight ratings for 2021
Fans were eagerly waiting for the much-hyped face-off between The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns and the WWE megastar John Cena. These two superstars have a glorious history of delivering entertaining and fierce promos at each other whenever they face off. The duo didn’t disappoint the crowd, and the fans viewing from home as the opening segment of the blue brand featured a raw and fierce verbal spat between arguably the two of the best superstars that WWE has seen.

As this face-off was the show’s opening segment, SmackDown gained over 2.575 million viewers in its first hour, according to SpoilerTV. The second hour featured a contract signing between Sasha Banks and WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bianca Belair, garnered over 2.422 million viewers. Thus, last week’s episode of the blue brand drew an average of 2.499 million viewers in the overnight ratings.
Friday nights gaining the views
The latest ratings of WWE Smackdown are a phenomenal result for the brand as this show has the best numbers seen since the December 25, 2020 episode (3.303 million viewers). A 22% increase has occurred from the previous Smackdown episode to this one. This drastic increase in viewers may well have happened because the show featured the much-awaited face-off between Reigns and Cena. There is also an increase in viewers in the 18-49 demographic as the show garnered about 0.6 ratings.

These numbers show the fans prefer SmackDown over Raw. The presence of superstars such as John Cena, Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair, Sasha Banks, Edge, and more can also be considered a factor for the exponential rise in viewers for Smackdown. Fans can expect something similar or more viewers for the next episode of Smackdown, as it will be the last episode of the blue brand before heading to WWE SummerSlam.
