WWE has an unbelievable nine titles on the main roster, while NXT has four, not including NXT UK. These are simply too many titles for a limited roster, despite the main roster being quite bloated. With the first ever Women’s Dusty Rhodes Classic in the books, NXT is looking forward to uplifting the female tag division. To boost its popularity, NXT might introduce Women’s Tag Team Championships. It is still unclear whether these are exclusive to NXT.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Newsletter Observer, NXT is planning to introduce the titles soon. NXT General Manager William Regal claimed a ‘landscape shifting’ announcement will be made on the next episode of NXT.

This came prior to the Women’s Tag Team Championship match between Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez vs the champions, Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. The match ended in controversial fashion, which saw WWE official Adam Pearce make a surprise NXT appearance.

Shayna Baszler made Dakota Kai submit to the Kirifuda Clutch, but Raquel Gonzalez was the legal woman. Adam Pearce sent a Raw official to the ring to award the submission victory to the champions. This seems like a bid to keep the titles on the main roster.

Regal and Pearce even discussed the matter backstage.

Who could be the first champions?

The honor of being the inaugural champion is bestowed upon only a select few Superstars. Seth Rollins lives in infamy as the first champion on the black-and-gold brand, as does Paige, the first Women’s Champion. Tyler Bate and Rhea Ripley had their careers shot into the stratosphere as they became the first United Kingdom Champions.

Ideally, Dakota Kai and Raquel Gonzalez should be the inaugural champions. They proved their worth by winning the Dusty Classic and but lost the opportunity to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles.

New signings, Cora Jade and Gigi Dolin, can pull off an MSK and become inaugural champions. The Way, Candice Le Rae and Indi Hartwell can add some comedy relief to the title picture, while Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon are forever underdogs in this supremely talented division.
