Vince McMahon‘s WWE and Tony Khan’s AEW are two rival pro wrestling companies. Both rival companies always are in the quest to outlast the other. So copying each other moves has no place in the equation. After all, they want their content to be unique. Recently, the Stamford-based company had to change its ‘water throwing plan’ last minute to not look as if it was trying to copy or mock its competitor.
At AEW Revolution on Sunday, MJF (Maxwell Jacob Friedman) squared off against Bryan Danielson in a 60-minute Iron Man match at the Chase Center in San Francisco. The former gained victory over the latter and retained his AEW title.
But after the match, the current AEW World Champion is on the social media radar, but not because of his epic title win.

The match had just begun and about five minutes later, the 5’11 star left the squared circle and went behind the barricade. There, he snatched a cup full of drink from a lady’s hand and dumped it on her son’s face.
He sure did a great job of displaying his heel character. However, AEW management and pro wrestling fans showed disapproval of this.
Sean Sapp from Fightful revealed that the young fan named Titus was really upset by this. And several AEW stars went up to him to cheer him up after the event.
MJF, displaying a heel character, did not show any remorse for his action even after his match. “The kid looked thirsty. What’s the second question?” replied MJF to a question asked by a reporter.
WWE did not want to copy AEW
Sean Sapp from Fightful as reported by RingsideNews, also revealed that the Stamford-based company had planned a similar move to be executed at its event.

It was decided that “a wrestler would throw a drink in another’s face during a match on Raw.” But since doing that would look like copying or mocking AEW, the management decided to not give it a green light.
Sapp also revealed that people backstage were thinking the water-throwing angle was “a shot at AEW or a reference to MJF throwing a drink on a child at AEW Revolution” but this was not the case. WWE had come up with this plan before the MJF incident went on air.
