Being a WWE Superstar or a pro-wrestler in general is no easy feat. Injuries are a part and parcel of the sport. However, there have been times when certain injuries have derailed wrestlers’ careers forever. One such superstar who almost derailed his career is former Raw Tag Team Champion, Ivar, of the Viking Raiders.

The ‘Warbeard’ is one of the most agile big men in WWE. He moves in the ring like a cat, and that is exactly what captivates fans every time he steps foot in the ring. Sadly, Ivar suffered a very serious injury that almost confined him to a bed or wheelchair for life.

The horrific injury that almost cost Ivar his WWE career

Ivar suffered a brutal injury on WWE Raw last year while executing a suicide dive between the ropes. He suffered a cervical injury during an eight-man tag team match against The Hurt Business. The injury forced Ivar out of action, and lead to him getting neck surgery.

Following a valiant effort in the Tag Team turmoil match on Raw, Ivar took to Twitter to make this shocking news public. Ivar looked back on the one year anniversary of his horrific injury and revealed that he was temporarily paralyzed before his neck surgery last year.

He also added that he feels extremely good to get into the ring and do what he does best exactly one year after such a scary injury. Ivar wrote, “1 year ago today, I was temporarily paralyzed on Raw leading to my neck surgery. Feels good to fly again! Doesn’t feel as good for Xavier Woods.”

The reason Ivar mentioned Xavier Woods not feeling good is because the latter was at the receiving end of a 300-lbs, rib-crushing splash. Luckily, he survived the raid.

A stronger comeback for Ivar and The Viking Raiders

Ivar’s injury kept him out of action for almost seven months. He made his return on the Raw after WrestleMania 37, alongside his tag team partner, Erik.

The duo, collectively known as the Viking Raiders, quickly set their sights on the Raw Tag Team Championship. However, they couldn’t find a way to dethrone the then champions, AJ Styles and Omos.

Currently, The Viking Raiders are a mainstay in the Raw tag team division. Although they aren’t in the title picture now, we’re certain they’ll re-focus on the titles once Bobby Lashley and MVP are done with RK-Bro.

We’re glad Ivar did not suffer any long-term damage despite the severity of the injury. Many would contemplate coming back to the ring after such an injury, but the former WWE Raw Tag Team Champion did not. This clearly shows his passion for pro-wrestling. And after all, every setback leads to a stronger comeback.
