Now that the promotion’s contract with Peacock is coming to an end in 2024, WWE will be moving its red brand to another streaming giant. Starting January 2025, Monday Night Raw will air on Netflix. When this news first came out, fans started wondering what the reason behind this switch was.

While it is true that Netflix was able to offer a much bigger amount to the wrestling company than Peacock would have, Dave Meltzer pointed out another reason that possibly pushed WWE to switch streaming partners.

WWE probably wanted to see a secure future

Part of sustaining a company also requires planning ahead of time. Although almost all streaming companies tend to be in debt, Peacock is also losing money at the same time. Netflix recovered itself and is financially doing better and more stable, but things are not quite the same with Peacock.

Meltzer talked about this online on his Twitter account when a fan account asked whether he thinks Peacock would be able to overcome most $3 Billion in debt like Netflix. To this, Dave Meltzer replied, “Losses are closer to $10 billion. Last year’s alone were $2.8 billion and that was an improvement over 2022.

These losses show that Peacock’s financial condition seems unstable at the moment. On the other hand, Netflix seems to be a more profitable business with a more secure future. So, apart from the $5 billion that the streaming giant offered for 10 years, this could also be one of the reasons why WWE is shifting the home for Monday Night Raw.

The deal that now sounds lucrative to the world almost didn’t happen between Netflix and the red brand. Instead, it was meant for another WWE show.

WWE wanted this show to go to Netflix

Time and again, NXT has proven just as worthy as the main roster brands in terms of audience engagement regarding the storylines that it offers. This resulted in WWE pitching in the idea to bring its developmental brand to the streaming giant. However, this deal eventually changed over to Raw.

Although there wasn’t further clarification on why this change happened, all we know is that Raw would have had to find another home in this case.
