After being away from the wrestling scene amid a busy Holywood schedule, John Cena finally prioritized his wrestling passion by making a rampant return at Money in The Bank 2023. London’s O2 arena burst in amazement when Cena’s music hit all of a sudden. While Cena resuming his WWE run is no doubt a matter of pleasure for his fans and the entire WWE world, they quickly turned their focus on what’s next. To be a bit specific, they seem to be very keen to know who is gonna be the next big rival of John Cena in the promotion.

In these circumstances, WWE veteran Bruce Prichard looked back at all legendary Cena’s rivalries and named one among them as the all-time best.

John Cena’s monumental rise to the business couldn’t be on the card if WWE Hall Of Famer John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield didn’t have his back. Every legendary figure owes their career to someone to some extent. For John Cena, it was JBL whom he defeated in 2005 as WrestleMania went to Hollywood to claim the first of his 16 world titles. Cena and JBL continued their rivalry throughout the summer of 2005 before Cena got drafted to RAW, ending hostilities temporarily.

The two men last met under the ring in 2009 with John Cena, retaining the World Heavyweight Championship against JBL at the 2009 Royal Rumble.

Despite engaging in a historical rivalry, Cena several times expressed his utter gratitude to the Hall of Famer for he taught him a bunch of lessons and pushed toward greatness in his career.

Capitalizing on that note, a former WWE manager, Bruce Prichard, noted, ”Without John Layfield to take John on that ride and take all of those steps with John. I don’t know what would have been the same, so I credit Layfield um in that rivalry the most because that’s what made John a bonafide Superstar and then John took it from there; I think John then was able to make his opponents modified superstars those that were worthy.

Prichard added, “So for me, the rivalry with John is the one I remember most because it was the most challenging. It was Do or Die right and that’s what I remember.”

Pritchard, 60, further mentioned that people mostly name The Rock as his all-time best rival, but he opposed that stance because he prefers to ‘look at the build’.

However, JBL recently called Cena out for committing a “crime“.

JBL accused John Cena of committing a crime on WWE TV

Well, JBL didn’t mean it on a serious note. Rather, it was just his way of reminiscing about a past storyline between him and John Cena. On the July 7, 2008, show of WWE RAW, John Cena decided to showcase the limousine of JBL. The Champ and the tag team Cryme Tyme stated that the limousines in Louisiana should possess a passenger-side mirror. Cena, JTG, and Shad Gaspard then went on to destroy the existing mirror, the windshield, and the rest of the windows as well. They even spray-painted the entire car.

While it was merely for a storyline purpose, JBL chose to take slight jibes at Cena in a pseudo-serious tone on Twitter. He noted, ”This was a crime, carried out on global television. Please don’t promote these criminals. I’m still trying to get over this.”

While they two aren’t the closest in real life, no animosity between JBL and Cena brewed but only respect, something that is really exemplary.

However, now we need to see how WWE pans out the next rivalry for Cena if and when he returns to the company for a longer run.
