Praising his presence of mind, a WWE legend recently highlighted the flair Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson had with insults in his promos.

Kurt Angle recently appeared on his podcast and was speaking about his time with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. During the discussion, the topic of banters and insults came up. While several names were suggested to the WWE and TNA Hall of Famer, Angle chose Johnson as his top man for insults. In fact, Kurt Angle even put The Rock above WWE’s in-house wordsmith John Cena.

Combat sports often involve jibes and verbal insults among opponents, and WWE has seen many stars who have at times come up with the most iconic insults. During the ‘The Kurt Angle Show’ podcast, the WWE legend talked about his No Mercy 2000 rivalry with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the topic of who was great with the mic and taking jibes came up.

Speaking about who has the best insults in WWE, Angle said, “Nobody compares to The Rock… he has the best insults. The most entertaining insults. That guy’s insulted everybody in the business and their mother.” When asked about his views on John Cena in terms of insults, Angle didn’t waver from his choice.

Kurt Angle said, “Cena’s real good too, But The Rock is my favorite.” Cena was known for his insults during his ‘Doctor of Thuganomics’ gimmick when he used to rap on his opponents. The fans fondly remember Cena and The Rock’s verbal battle during their rivalry from 2012-2013. But for Angle, The Brahma Bull stands out when it comes to insulting their rivals on the mic.

Thus, while the WWE Universe sees John Cena as the guy who always has a sarcastic insult at his sleeve, Kurt Angle loves what The Rock is cooking. In fact, Kurt Angle had stated in a previous interview just why he loves The Rock’s insults so much.

What makes The Rock and his insults so special?

While everyone knows that WWE dialogues and promos are scripted, there are several times when wrestlers have to do things on the fly. While improvisation may seem like a default ability for almost all wrestlers, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has always proven to be a cut above the rest.

Praising this very ability in a previous interview, Kurt Angle said that Johnson was always unpredictable and regularly mixed things up. He said, “Yeah, I mean, he improvised a lot. So you didn’t know what he was going to say. Even when you knew what the script was, he didn’t follow the script entirely.” 

Kurt Angle further said, “So, you didn’t know if you’re going to crack up or start crying. I mean, Rock was one of the best promo guys in the business, and he is one of the most entertaining guys. You just didn’t know what he was going to say, and you had to be ready.”
