CM Punk‘s return to WWE was undoubtedly one of the biggest reveals in the promotion this year. However, it also opened a window for a reasonable doubt: who will the ex-AEW talent face now? His old rivalries in WWE were almost a decade ago, so it wouldn’t make sense to revive much of them. But luckily, a wrestling legend has found a fix for this problem.
In a recent episode of his podcast, Bully Ray discussed the ‘dream match’ that CM Punk should be featured in. While listing down his ultimate opponent, Ray also believes this booking would be worthy enough to main event the first night of WrestleMania.

There were several moments in WWE over the years where a Punk vs Steve Austin match was teased to fans. Much to everyone’s disappointment, this booking never made it to the squared circle. But now, Bully Ray believes, is the perfect time to revive this rivalry.
During a recent episode of Busted Open, the three co-hosts were talking about the different possibilities of CM Punk’s future feuds. Since there haven’t been any teases yet, there were plenty of opportunities to explore. This is when Bully Ray introduced a ‘dream match’ idea.
“I want Punk and [Steve] Austin at WrestleMania. Punk and Austin at WrestleMania is a ‘dream match’. You don’t have to worry about Punk in any championships. It’s something that we never got to see,” said the wrestling veteran.
He also believes that this match would be perfect for the main event during night one of WrestleMania 40. This is also because it’s one of Punk’s feuds that never concluded.
Even though there have been a number of teases for a match between the two wrestlers inside WWE, their rivalry stuck even after they left the promotion.
Can this feud still be revived?
As mentioned earlier, most of the feuds that “The Best in the World had in WWE were almost a decade ago, before he left the Stamford-based company in 2014. But even though both the wrestlers had left WWE behind, they were still not done with each other.

In 2021, CM Punk was asked on Twitter about a statement he made. A fan asked him whether he really meant it when he said that a match between him and “Stone Cold” would be over in ‘no time’. Punk replied by tweeting, “Would’ve been short. GTS, 1 2 3.”

However, the WWE Hall of Famer didn’t take kindly to the joke and replied in retaliation. Austin called him “delusional” for thinking this way as he gave him a sweet flashback to visit.
I see. @CMPunk You did say that. Damn.
Complete delusion. I had us at a 60 minute time limit match at the Rosemont Horizon. Right there in Chicago. Chi Town. The Windy City. Helluva match.
