In the Brothers of Destruction documentary, Undertaker revealed his thoughts on who should have broken his streak. Across 27 WrestleManias, Taker has won 25 matches. His only losses came against Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
“I thought there would be somebody, like Roman. Roman would have been, I think Roman would have been fine.”
These are the Undertaker’s words on whether Roman Reigns should have ended his undefeated streak at WrestleMania 33. Instead, we got Brock Lesnar.
Kane commented on the Lesnar-Undertaker match from WrestleMania 30.
“My reaction, when I was watching, I thought the finish got messed up, I was like, ‘they’re going to restart the match or something because something got screwed up.’ They didn’t. I walked out of the room. I was literally so mad about it.”
Kane’s reaction was similar to the 75,000 fans in the New Orleans Superdome when the referee counted to three after the final F5. The Big Red Machine agreed with Undertaker, that Roman Reigns should have ended the streak instead of Brock Lesnar. The decision to put Brock Lesnar over was Vince McMahon’s and not Taker’s.
Taker faced Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33
Despite the streak ending in 2014, the Undertaker continued to show up at WrestleMania. He faced Bray Wyatt and Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 31 and 32, respectively. In 2017, he was faced with his most daunting challenge ever.
Roman Reigns was being rejected by fans all across the country. No matter his accomplishments, his passion or his abilities, fans made it very clear that they did not want to see Roman as the face of the company.
At the 2017 Royal Rumble, the WWE Universe gave Reigns the worst treatment the ‘Big Dog’ would ever receive.

Reigns destroyed Taker at Mania with multiple spears, including one through the announcer’s table. Taker tried to keep up with his much quicker opponent but his age and worn down body prevented him. Reigns finally put down Taker in what looked like the Deadman’s final appearance at Mania.
Taker would return to WrestleMania, but the match with Roman Reigns is burnt into our memories. The sight of the hapless Undertaker waiting for Reigns to take him out with the final spear was heart-wrenching at best. With a finish like that, Roman Reigns would have been a fine choice to end the streak.
