On a recent episode of SmackDown WWE announced Rey Mysterio as the first 2023 Hall of Fame inductee. There was a thought who will induct the ‘Master of 619’ as it might not be his son due to their on-screen beef. However, a close friend on Mysterio might do the honors for the WWE legend.

This close friend is a wrestling legend and has been in the business for a long time. Moreover, recently Dominik Mysterio was ready to sacrifice his WWE career for this family friend’s health concerns.
Rey Mysterio asked WWE to allow wrestling veteran to induct him
After the news of Rey Mysterio as the first 2023 WWE Hall of Famer broke, fans quickly thought who will induct the legend. There were several guesses such as Vickie Guerrero, Chavo Guerrero, Batista, etc. However, his close friend Konnan will induct him into the Hall of Fame.
Dave Metlzer recently tweeted, “Konnan will be inducting Rey into the Hall of Fame. Rey asked for him and the company approved it. As noted last night, to me it was the only choice”
Konnan has been in Mysterio’s corner since day one. He joined WCW full-time a few months before the masked icon made his debut in the company. However, unlike Mysterio, Konnan didn’t join WWE after WCW was brought by Vince McMahon in 2001.

The former WCW star is close with Rey Mysterio’s children from a long time. A few weeks back on his Keepin’ It 100 podcast he revealed Dominik and Aalyah Mysterio were ready to donate their kidney to him for a kidney transplant.
Furthermore, Konnan is also the godfather of Dominik and highly praised his current ‘Prison Dom’ character on his podcast. This all shows how close the wrestling legend is to the Mysterio family and why Mysterio wants Konnan to induct him.
Fans agree with the idea of Konnan inducting Rey Mysterio
The fans shared their happiness and called Konnan the right person for the job. As Dominik might not induct his father, a close friend is the best choice by the 48-year-old.
Moreover, if WWE includes the Hall of Fame ceremony in their storyline, Konnan will officially be a part of a WWE segment.
Wrestling fans happy with WWE allowing Konnan to induct Rey Mysterio.
The right move. Glad to hear this is happening

So many big names would be good choices to induct Rey, but Konnan is the best.

Sadly, this user is not happy Dave Meltzer revealing the surprise!
Why would you spoil this? This is a big deal. Would’ve been great to find out when it happened.

Konnan is the best fit as he is a closest family friend of the ‘Master of 619’
he was the only option, no one else could have done this

That makes a lot of sense. Konnan was a huge reason that Rey got to WCW and has always and still always looks out for him.

WWE giving a green flag for this is also surprising news for the wrestling world.
Ah nice! This was what I thought was the best choice but wasn’t sure they’d approve it.
— Jack Parkes (@jparkes1991) March 11, 2023
This will make Konnan be a part of the Rey and Dominik Mysterio storyline if WWE uses this induction as a part of their feud.
Ohhhh, get Konnan on the storylines! That would be GOLD!

The 59-year-old has been a part of WCW, ECW, TNA/Impact Wrestling, AEW and several Mexican promotions. He is one of the wrestlers who never made the switch even after WCW was sold to WWE.
However, he did spent some time in WWE in early 90s, but left the company because Mexican wrestling had started to rise at the time.
