Former WWE superstar Goldberg is one of the most iconic wrestlers of all time. One of the most dominating and fearsome wrestlers during his peak, Goldberg rose to his status during his incredible run in WCW and became a legend. However, another former WWE superstar was recently uplifted to the same position by a WWE legend.
During his time in WCW, Goldberg maintained an undefeated streak of 173 matches, which was eventually broken by Kevin Nash. Similarly, 17 years ago, a prime Samoa Joe aged 27 years, maintained a similar record. During the latest podcast episode, Angle addressed this and spoke on the matter.

Following the footsteps of Goldberg, Joe would go on a rampage in TNA, and maintain an undefeated streak of 172 matches. However, the streak would be unfortunately broken by the wrestling machine, Kurt Angle. While Nash broke Goldberg’s streak by elevating himself to that position by having the creative power. Angle never wanted to end Joe’s streak on the other hand.
The Olympic gold medallist claimed that Joe’s run of 172-0, made him a valuable asset for TNA. He said, “I started my career in TNA with Samoa Joe. You know, I knew in the beginning how valuable Joe was to the company. And him being undefeated for 172 matches. And, it was a huge honor to bear him, I was the first person to beat him in TNA.”
Angle further claimed that he should not have been the one to end the current AEW star’s reign in TNA. The 54-year-old said, “I think I shouldn’t have been, I think I should have waited but that’s what they wanted that particular time. “

Further down the interview, Angle would heap praises on Samoa Joe, and his Samoan heritage. Angle claimed that all the wrestlers from the Samoan heritage are exceptional athletes, and are extremely good pro wrestlers.
He said, ” Joe is so damn good. He really gives you space. You know what? Samoans have been really good at pro wrestling. They all understand, they all are incredible athletes.” Joe and Angle had a fierce rivalry in TNA and would continue the same during both of their time in WWE as well.
Despite being bitter rivals on screen, the two athletes share a good relationship off-screen.
