WWE Hall of Famer Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts was one of the most influential heels that the pro-wrestling business ever witnessed. The legendary wrestler knew how to get under his opponent’s skin and was an incredible performer. However, not everything in the life of Jake Roberts was smooth as his wrestling moves.

The Hall of Famer recently revealed in his podcast that his father never believed in him when he was a kid. Roberts confessed that he had a very ill relationship with his father. However, there was one time when Roberts prayed to the Devil to hurt his father.

Speaking on the latest episode of his podcast DDP Snake Pit‘, the former WWE superstar revealed that his father would speak ill things to him and never trusted him when he was a kid.

Jake Roberts had a traumatic childhood

Roberts bluntly admitted that he once prayed to the Devil and said that he’d do anything for him if he would just make his father “eat his own words.” Furthermore, Jake also admitted that once he told his father that he wants to be a pro-wrestler, his father would beat him up.

“And I prayed to the Devil I’d do anything for Him if He would just help me get to the top and helped my father eat his words. And I told my father I was going to get into wrestling and he laughed at mem [and said] ‘Are you kidding me?’ He took me out to the backyard, he gave me three chops. I still remember. Told me I don’t have the guts for it,” Roberts admitted.

Eventually, ‘The Snake’ made his way into the pro-wrestling industry and never looked back. However, as shown in an episode of Vice TV’s Dark Side of the Ring’s third season, Roberts had a tough time getting over his traumatic childhood which pushed him towards drugs usage.

Throughout his career, the fans knew Roberts for his intense and cerebral promos, dark charisma, extensive use of psychology in his matches, which made him an icon of the industry.

Currently, Roberts makes special TV appearances for Tony Khan’s AEW. Although Roberts didn’t win a championship in WWE, his career was definitely Hall of Fame worthy.
