WWE Insider Reveals the Real Reason Stone Cold Steve Austin Joined Donald Trump and Vince McMahon’s Rivalry

If there is something young wrestlers must learn from the legends, it’s how to protect themselves and their identities. Even when one is not actively working with WWE, one can ensure the WWE Universe remembers them. Stone Cold Steve Austin has mastered this and executed it to perfection.

It so happened that at WrestleMania 23, The Texas Rattlesnake was the referee for the match between Bobby Lashley and Umaga. They clashed at the ‘Battle of the Billionaires,’ where Lashley was representing Donald Trump and Umaga was representing Vince McMahon.

Now, it did not make sense to have Stone Cold as the referee, considering he wasn’t actively working with WWE at that point, given his 2003 retirement. However, he returned to the event to referee this match. But why?

The Texas Rattlesnake had an interesting reason to return at WrestleMania 27

WWE Legend Jim Ross revealed the answer during his conversation with Conrad Thompson on Grilling JR.

“He was going to oversee Vince getting his head shaved. So, there was a little something there for the legendary baby face Stone Cold. But again, he didn’t do it for charity. He was also in all the artwork. So his image, when they did a graphic of Trump and McMahon, it always had Bobby in it, it had Umaga in it. And now, Steve. So, for talent, who’s working on other projects and wants to maintain his name and identity, and do what he can and not allow people to forget him, was a smart move for Austin.” H/t Grilling JR

Additionally, Austin did not do it for free. He got a paycheck for the same, and let’s not forget – The WWE Universe always pops when there is a returning legend involved in the gig.

Jim Ross believes Stone Cold Steve Austin will ‘stun’ the WrestleMania 38 crowd

The way The Texas Rattlesnake returned at WrestleMania 23 to give the fans something to remember him by, he’s doing the same with the upcoming WrestleMania 38.

During the same conversation with Conrad Thompson, the WWE Legend spoke about The Texas Rattlesnake’s return.

He believes that Stone Cold will actually surprise everyone, and this could potentially lead to him wrestling more. He also believes Stone Cold will bring his former elements such as beer drinking and stunners back to the ring.
