In 2018, former RAW Women’s Champion, Becky Lynch began going by the nickname, “The Man”. The WWE Hall of Famer also refers to himself as “The Man”.
Hence, Flair attempted to trademark the term in 2019. Fortunately, Flair and WWE finally settled the dispute in 2020, as WWE obtained the rights to use “The Man.”
In an episode of “My World with Jeff Jarrett” podcast, Ric Flair stated,
“I was concerned that I had lost the respect of Roman Reigns,” Flair said. “Because when that whole ‘Man’ thing went upside down and all that and I had to file the trademark, whatever transpired, it means nothing now. I think people, I heard that he… and I walked right up to him. I said, ‘Can I have a minute of your time?’ and I said, ‘Hey, it means a lot to me.’ I mean, you want the kids [current WWE Superstars] to look forward to you coming, not, ‘Oh man, here he comes again.’ Does that make sense? Especially when you have a daughter who is at the most elite position she could be in.” [transcription via SportsKeeda]
‘The Nature Boy’ was also worried that his actions would affect his daughter, Charlotte Flair’s work, who was at the top of the women’s division at the time.
From Flair’s viewpoint
Now, if we look at the situation from Flair’s point of view, he has every right to defend what he thinks is right. Flair has done a lot in his time and deserves everything that he now has.
I Hate To Break It To You Both @BeckyLynchWWE And @taylorswift13, But I’m THE MAN!!! And To Be THE MAN, You Gotta Beat THE MAN! WOOOOO! #theman

What are your thoughts on the matter? Should the ‘Nature Boy’ have let Becky Lynch take ‘The Man’ nickname without any trouble?
