When we hear the name John Cena, a larger-than-life superhero hero image instantly appears in our thoughts. The Cenation leader, being one of the greatest babyfaces of the company, garnered a lot of applause from WWE Universe and did a commendable job inside the squared circle to do justice to the acclaim.

Cenation got so accustomed to Cena being the ultimate good guy ever since he left the notorious Doctor of Thuganomics gimmick behind that it may sound odd to discuss Cena’s heel potential.

But that doesn’t mean the WWE didn’t ever think of that. In fact, there were many incidents when the Stamford-based company was almost on the verge of pitching a bad guy persona to him, but somehow it didn’t materialize.

Eric Bischoff reveals his methods of pitching a heel turn to John Cena

But it seems like WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff has a couple of great approaching methods for the seemingly absurd idea. While speaking on the 83 weeks with Eric Bischoff podcast, he discussed how he would have approached Cena for a heel turn.

Bischoff noted, ‘you know you a guy like John Cena where he was at least open to the idea to the extent that you could start creating, collaborating, John what if I, this is gonna sound crazy, John but what if you could start a conversation like that and get engagement and participation, that’s fun. Now, what would that have ended up looking like? Who knows? Who knows? You would have to know you have to build something that big around. That particular, that story would have to be unique to that talent to feel, really… It just couldn’t be a standard story. ‘

However, digging a little deeper, it’s safe to say that Cena himself was pretty resistant to his heel turn, to be more specific, he was particularly resistant to a middle-ground idea.

Why John Cena didn’t turn heel?

The polarising WWE superstar continues to be a fan favorite even after so many years of his mainstay appearance. But he was not at all against a heel turn. Former WWE writer Gewirtz once detailed Cena’s thoughts on becoming a heel. According to him, the leader of the Cenation didn’t disagree with his potential heel turn but at the same time, he put on some conditions which the company thought not to be ideal for the business. The Champ once said, ‘Ok, listen. If you want to turn me heel, if that’s what Vince says you guys want to do, I’ll do it. But just so you know, I will go full boar heel.’

This statement by Cena perhaps made McMahon think about his perfect substitute as the main face of the company, which is undoubtedly pretty hard to find. So, the story ended right there.
