WWE Hall of Famer Compares Roman Reigns to Cal Ripken Jr. to Justify Cody Rhodes’ Loss at WrestleMania 39

Roman Reigns pinned Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39 to not only pick up the victory but also strengthen his grip on the undisputed WWE Universal Championship. The Tribal Chief had already kept the belts for over 940 days when he stepped inside the ring to face the American Nightmare. While there were growing beliefs that Rhodes would win to complete his story, the case for Reigns was strong, too. He was nearing a once-in-a-lifetime record that not many in the past have been able to achieve.

Now, a WWE legend has come in support of the 37-year-old and named dropped MLB legend Cal Ripken Jr. to bolster his statement.

Kevin Nash wants Roman Reigns to remain the champion

Kevin Nash, part of the famed nWo stable and double WWE Hall of Fame inductee, has no qualms about Roman Reigns’ win against Cody Rhodes at the SoFi Stadium on April 2. Speaking on his ‘Kliq This’ podcast, Big Kev used Cal Ripken’s reference to highlight Reigns’ run as a champion.

“That close to 1,000 [days], you have to do it. It’d be I’d like [Cal] Ripken had turf toe and would have f**ing just taken a day off. There’s certain milestones, and right now, he’s too close to 1,000,” the 6x World Champion said.

Reigns has been a champion for over 960 days now and is knocking at the door of a 1,000-day run as the title holder. Ripken holds the record for consecutive games played (2,632) during his 21 seasons in the MLB.

Nash further said that a company is as successful as its top guy and hailed The Tribal Chief as the “money guy”.

Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes’ loss didn’t go down well with many who took to social media to vent their anger. Nash, however, wasn’t the only guy to support Reigns’ win over Rhodes.

Jim Ross backs Triple H and WWE creative for keeping the title on Reigns

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross was one of the prominent voices who found the conclusion to Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes’ match to be apt. Speaking on his ‘Grilling JR’ podcast, the 71-year-old legend first termed him as a Cody Rhodes fan while stating, “I know a lot of people were p*****d off. I just think that this long-term arc to get him back to the promise land is the way to go. It’s good story-telling.”

However, another legend, Kurt Angle, wasn’t impressed. He said having a guy as the champion for so long might be counterproductive to the company.
