Hillsborough Police revealed that the man had allegedly been planning this break-in for eight months. In fact, he had been stalking the alleged victim on social media for years.
A release by Hillborough Sheriff’s office confirned that the 24 year old alleged perpetrator broke into the house of Berenato during the thick of night at 2:43 a.m. ET. However, as soon as the glass door through which he entered was shifted, a security alarm alerted Berenato.
This prompted her to look out the window where she found a man on her property. After escaping from the house with a guest, Daria called 911. When the officers entered the alleged crime scene, Thomas was still on the property.
Shockingly, he was carrying a knife, plastic zip ties, duct tape, mace and “other personal items.
He was subsequently charged with aggravated stalking, armed burglary, attempted armed kidnapping and criminal mischief.
The office of the Sheriff released other shocking details
Sheriff Chad Chronister released a statement revealing more disturbing details about the incident.
Our deputies are unveiling the suspect’s disturbing obsession with this homeowner who he had never met, but stalked on social media for years,” Chronister said in a statement. “It’s frightening to think of all the ways this incident could have played out had the home alarm not gone off and alerted the homeowner of an intruder. Our deputies arrived within minutes and arrested this man who was clearly on a mission to inflict harm.”
Sonya Deville is safe and thankful
Sonya took to her Twitter and Instagram to assure her fans and friends that she was safe. The incident had shaken her to the core but she was thankful that the perpetrator was nabbed before he could inflict damage.

Fans show concern for the Superstar
Many fans were concerned for her mental state after this incident. They took to social media to highlight their concerns.
It’s really worrying to think of how that Sonya Deville situation could have played out had the burglar alarm not worked, not been loud enough to awaken the people inside, or if they hadn’t been able to flee the location.
I hope the stalker gets locked away for a very long time.

This thing with Sonya Deville is genuinely disturbing, the person involved is not a fan, they're simply a piece of shit.
Wrestlers are entertainers but they are also people and they don't owe you shit.

Many times in the past, WWE Superstars have acknowledged that they love and value their fans. However, there’s a section of the fans who fail to appreciate the line between adulation and obssession.
A respect for consent and privacy needs to be maintained even if the person in question is a public entity. When that doesn’t happen, incidents like these come to the fore. We can only hope that Deville recovers from the trauma that this incident would have brought upon her.
