WWE can’t get us enough references to bank on the idea of a potential CM Punk return sooner or later. Ever since Punk’s potential second WWE run started to gain traction, the Stamford-based company has been keeping us hanging with various hints and clues. This time Raw star Shinsuke Nakamura followed suit.

Lately, the Best in the World has been in the headlines for the worst plausible reasons. Since September, he has been out of action following an infamous backstage brawl with Jack Perry at AEW All-In. It eventually culminated in the termination of him by Khan via an official proclamation. Of course, it immediately rekindled the old notion of Punk returning to the fold as a part of the WWE roster.

From Corey Graves’ words on commentary Friday Night to Seth Rollins’ phrasing, fans have been trying to connect the dots whether it has been actually teased or not. But what happened at Raw tonight seems to be far from a coincidence.

Ahead of the Triple Threat match to pick up the number one contender for Gunther’s Intercontinental Championship between Ricochet, Chad Gable, and Big Bronson Reed, Nakamura interrupted, hitting a Go to sleep (GTS) on Ricochet during his entrance.

It was enough to feed further into the rumor mill as Punk famously executed the maneuver as his finisher. However, it originally dates back to KENTA’s NXT days. But is a CM Punk arrival really brewing under the cover or is it just WWE teasing its fandom?

The latest backstage update on Punk’s rumored return

Apart from the teases, there have already been many updates on the Seventh City Saints’ potential return as early as in the Survivor Series this year. However, later another backstage report dismissed that chance. But as per the latest report, it’s coming. Even if not in November’s PLE, it’s still on the card. BWE stated on their private Twitter account that the process is going well, without spilling the beans much.

As the speculation regarding Punk’s potential WWE return continues to crank up day be day, there might be more such teases and updates in the coming days. And it will be fascinating to see if Punk really ends up in the business someday or not.
