Last week, fans witnessed the gruesome showdown between Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn. Zayn, who ended up losing the match, was attacked backstage by the Scottish Psychopath. While Zayn was absent tonight at Raw, his reason for absence was revealed.

Is Sami Zayn injured?

During the fight between Jey Uso and Drew McIntyre, WWE commentator Michael Cole revealed the reason behind the 39-year-old star’s absence. Cole revealed that Zayn is suffering from a partially torn meniscus. Drew McIntyre inflicted the injury on him. McIntyre had already scored a decisive advantage via the injury. He was seen holding onto his knee after the match.

Following the match, Zayn was seen backstage, where a professional was assessing his injured knee. At this very moment, McIntyre barged in and attacked Zayn. The Scotsman who has shared his frustration with the faces of the company, is on a revenge spree by going after them. Zayn has garnered immense popularity in recent times as one of the company’s many baby faces.

His rise in popularity began when he decided to against his former stable’s Chief, Roman Reigns. Fans then saw him and his friend Kevin Owens feuding with the Reigns but the rivalry was cut short as the two were drafted to the Monday Night Raw.

While fans are excited to see him back in the ring due to the ongoing storyline with Cody Rhodes and Judgment Day, there might be some bad news in store for them.

When will Sami Zayn return?

The 2023 Survivor Series saw Zayn teaming up with Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Jey Uso, and Randy Orton to take down the Bloodline at the main event of the PLE. His various run-ins with the Bloodline have made fans intrigued as to what might be in store for him. However, fans might have to wait until next year to see back in action. While the injury is kayfabe or not, his leave is for sure true. According to sports journalist Dave Meltzer, the former Luchador had requested a hiatus from the company.

The leave has been approved by the company and the injury angle might be a way to keep him out of the ring for some time. Apart from that, the exact duration of his absence is not revealed but the booking suggests that he might not be seen on any shows for the remainder of the year. This also includes WWE’s upcoming December 28 live event at Laval, Quebec. This is particularly disheartening for his die-hard fans as the star won’t be present for the live show held in his hometown.
