Carlito was one of the most popular names in WWE during the 200os. He debuted in 2004 as a heel on SmackDown where he was referred to as Carlito Caribbean Cool.
The apple-chewing, trash talking, Puerto Rican quickly got over with the fans and was rewarded with the United States Championship in his first match.
Beating John Cena in your debut match is a huge feat. Of course, Cena was nothing close to the polarising Superstar he is now, but winning the United States Championship from Cena in your first match was still quite a big deal.
He would maintain a streak of successful title defences. Eddie Guerrero, Rob Van Dam and Rey Mysterio were just some names that fell to Carlito.
In 2005, Carlito won the Intercontinental Championship after being drafted to Raw. He had now held the secondary championships of both Raw and SmackDown.
This beckoned a main event run for the coolest guy in the business. He entered the Elimination Chamber match in 2006. Inside the structure, he eliminated Shawn Michaels (former winner), Chris Masters and Kane, before falling to John Cena.
He would slowly transition out of the main event and back into the midcard. Alongside his brother Primo Colon, Carlito held the Unified Tag Team Championships.
His career in WWE would come to an unfortunate end after he had several drug related violations. This led to his release from the company.
