Although Cody Rhodes finally faced Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 and snatched the Undisputed WWE Championship from him, the months leading up to it were somewhat complicated for him. Rhodes won the Royal Rumble for the second year in a row and surprised everyone shortly after, when he gave up his match to Roman Reigns to The Rock in a segment on SmackDown. Rhodes’ face at the time was one of clear disappointment at what was happening, something that was a reflection of the reality behind the scenes.
But not everything was planned backstage in concrete. As we saw, Rhodes did end up getting the match as well as the title. And Brain Gewirtz, a business partner of the Rock, revealed how the WWE has rough plans for the Brahma Bull and the American Nightmare for WrestleMania 41.
The Rock vs. Rhodes already on paper?

In a chat on The Masked Man Show, Brian Gewirtz, someone who is really close to The Rock and is also his representative in the WWE creative team, stated that it is not necessary that all that is in the script today might surely be delivered the next day. It is possible that old ideas may be scrapped and new ones made. And for now, the WWE might bring back the old plan of having Johnson fight Rhodes for WrestleMania 41.
Gewirtz said, “Well, first of all, I’ve seen the stuff that is supposedly written in ink. Has knows this, you know, better than anyone. Nothing is written. Nothing happens, until they step through the curtain and it happens. You know, there’s so many variables, a lot of things can happen, cannot happen. There’s certainly stuff that’s written in pencil and stuff that, you know, people might want, people might not want. But, you know, if we get to run it back for WrestleMania 41, I’d be thrilled. I’d love to do it. I think it would be, you know, be a part of it. I think it would be great.”
Fans sure would love for the match to happen. Especially after the way the Rock parted ways with Rhodes with a mystery gift. All the mystery is yet to be unveiled once he returns. But hopefully, in this return, the American Nightmare would have a different reaction compared to the one he gave when he gave away the match to The Brahma Bull.

Cody Rhodes reacted in a different way than what was supposed to
On the same podcast, Gewirtz stated that Cody Rhodes was supposed to have reacted differently in that segment on SmackDown. Arguing that he had to have a positive attitude about Rock’s match against Reigns and even encourage ‘The People’s Champion’ to finish off the Tribal Chief.
He said, “The idea was, in a way, like the Nixon-Kennedy debate, when you read the transcript and think, “Nixon beat him up.” If you look at the actual footage, “Oh, it was a terrible mess. Cody, it was supposed to be, somehow, ‘Yeah, F**kin A! Go get them Rock! You’re going to take a beating, Roman! Let’s do this!’ and this promo encouraging. Instead, it looked like someone shot his dog in the face in the parking lot.”

After Cody Rhodes had to cede the fight to The Rock, fans began to show their discontent in a way that had not been seen for many years. The hashtag #WeWantCody trended in the United States and other countries around the world throughout the following weekend.
In addition, the audience that attended the following Monday’s episode of RAW turned totally against The Rock, as they insulted him and supported Rhodes. All of this made WWE change its decision again. Thus making The American Nightmare wrestle Reigns at WrestleMania 40. While Rock played the role of ‘heel’ until the end. So do you want the two to fight at WrestleMania 41? Let us know in the comments.
