The Undertaker is one of the all-time greats of professional wrestling. Like many others, he had humble beginnings before, making it big in the wrestling world. ‘The Phenom’ reveals how he was duped for $2000 by an individual on the pretext of teaching pro wrestling early in his career.

The recently inducted WWE Hall of Famer was an ardent pro wrestling fan and wanted to get into the business. For this reason, he approached Buzz Sawyer, a known professional wrestler, in the 1980s.

He asked for a hefty sum of two grand for wrestling lessons. Despite paying the amount, ‘The Deadman’ had a bitter first experience in the industry.

How The Undertaker was duped for $2000 by Buzz Sawyer.

The Undertaker revealed how, after only a few amateur wrestling lessons, Buzz Sawyer took off with his money and other belongings to another territory.

Speaking on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast, The Undertaker said he had no money to pay for his wrestling lessons. Later, he arranged the $2000 by asking his older brother to sign up for a co-loan.

First morning of training right and buzz was uh he was a good amateur really good amateur and uh show up at his house knocking on the door knocking on there’s about 10 of us standing out in the f*****g front yard […] right finally buzz comes out […] he just stretches the s**t out of everybody,” he said.

He further reveals when he was the last one left in the training and how Sawyer packed his bags and left.

“I was the last one there so I’m the last one there a knock on the door he never answers right so I start peering in the windows all the furniture’s gone everything’s gone he’s gone he’s gone to a different territory to work he just left right never never learned any pro wrestling”.

The Undertaker then said this was usually the case back in the day. He said veterans of amateur wrestling would take money initially for training. But later gave the trainees a tough time, to the point where they would just quit.

This, however, didn’t discourage the former WWE Champion, who would then wait for months in the offices of the World Class Championship Wrestling before finally getting his break.

The Undertaker would then make his debut in June 1987 as Texas Red wrestling Bruiser Brody.

The Phenom took Sawyer’s dogs.

Funnily enough, the WWE veteran managed to get something out of this terrible ordeal.

“So I showed up to his house that day right and that shit’s gone all the s**t all this furniture he’d moved on to another territory but I guess he had to leave so fast that he couldn’t take his dogs he had two beautiful rottweilers he left he just left them, I took them off,” he revealed.

The former WWE Champion also confronted Sawyer in a locker room a few years later, reminding him of his actions.

However, cooler heads prevailed and Undertaker, who had just begun wrestling, didn’t want to get into any trouble.
