The Attitude Era is arguably the biggest golden era in WWE. Casual fans and new WWE enthusiasts joined in every week to see guys like Stone Cold Steve Austin and Dwayne Johnson steal the show. However, in the midst of these legends, emerged another legend, Kurt Angle.

Now in an exciting interview, Angle reminisced about working with the top guys and WWE’s faith in him.

The Dwayne Johnson and Stone Cold connection

Fans tout Kurt Angle as one of the greatest in-ring technical wrestlers of all time. He made his debut for WWE at a time when legends like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Undertaker, were all plying their trade. Nevertheless, the WWE Hall of Famer made a substantial impact after establishing himself in the main event scene.

The wrestling machine, who has had several memorable rivalries in the past, gave insight on debuting around the era of The Rock and Steve Austin. On his podcast, the Kurt Angle Show, Angle while conversing with Paul Bromwell, quoted: “Stone cold, The Rock were there. I came in at the best time.”

However, in the same conversation, he continued by saying: “I came in at the most competitive time too.”

It’s hard to argue with that phase not being the most competitive time as the locker room was filled with future Hall of Famers and Legends surrounding the superstar who made his debut in 1998. Angle would rise to the top quickly as he would compete against both Steve Austin. and The Rock during his run and successfully beat them both. 

The WWE legend also highlighted the high faith the hierarchy put in him that allowed him to get over and carve out a legendary career as he did.

In the same segment, Angle spoke about how WWE could have snubbed him. He quoted saying, “They could have easily shoved me to the side and just said you know what? We are good where we are, but they took a chance with me and I’m very grateful for that.”

After winning the Olympic Medal in 1996, Angle was offered to join the promotion in 1996, which he refused as he ‌considered WWE beneath him.

However, his perception changed in 1998, when he saw Steve Austin putting on athletic and entertaining matches. This led to him signing an initial 5-year deal with the brand.

Within 2 years, he would capture the WWE Championship and beat all the big draws from that era, including The Undertaker and Brock Lesnar, solidifying WWE’s faith in him. The technician would have a fruitful run in the business by winning 5 world championships during his stay with WWE till 2006.
