Drew McIntyre fell short yet again at Clash at the Castle but that doesn’t mean greater things don’t await him. This PLE was special, as for the first time in history it was held in Glasgow, Scotland. As the main event of the evening, we had the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Damian Priest and Drew McIntyre.

When everything seemed to indicate that The Scottish Warrior would win, CM Punk appeared with a referee’s shirt to prevent it. The Cult of Personality then kicked McIntyre’s noble parts, which Priest took advantage of to take the win. Giving the Scotsman a loss on his home turf and a second consecutive loss at the PLE.

And now that he has also lost another opportunity to claim the Heavyweight Championship gold, what’s next for the WWE superstar?

While we are all aware that Punk and McIntyre would end up facing each other, possibly at SummerSlam, there is another long-term storytelling at play here. One that finally gives McIntyre the gold but also gives him an opportunity to go on a babyface turn. At least, that’s what Jonathan Hood and Justin LaBar claimed at the Busted Open Podcast.

Drew McIntyre’s constant shortcomings could propel a face turn

In one of their recent editions of the Busted Open Podcast, the podcasters talked about the main event of the Clash at the Castle. And it was during this discussion that the topic of Drew McIntyre’s future bookings came up. So far, the Scottish Warrior has been great on the mic and has truly had the support of the WWE Universe as well with his evil shenanigans. And knowing his caliber, it is sad to see him constantly come short of claiming the gold.

But all this buildup is to make him finally claim the gold while also converting him into a face according to the podcasters. They said, “He’s going to continue it, but he’s going to continue it. And it’s going to be his next. You know, his next focus will be somebody else who’s not popular like CM Punk. And Drew’s going to keep this. This aura gone. And he’s going to become a babyface essentially, at least in booking wise. He’s going to to booked against a heel.” And that conversion in his character could lead him to attain the coveted gold. And more importantly, hold on to it for a sustained period.

They added, “And somewhere on that next round, he will capture a world title. He’ll get through punk. He’ll continue doing this, this, this work that he’s doing. It’ll be against the heels and he’ll get a world title because that will happen. You can write that down. You can quote me.”

Undoubtedly, the rivalry between CM Punk and Drew McIntyre is in full swing, as ‘The Best in the World’ has prevented McIntyre from being, once again, World Champion in front of his audience and family. But if what the Busted Open claims turns out to be true, then we will get to see something similar to the Cody Rhodes storyline. He too failed in his pursuit, that too in the Grandest Stage of Them All before finally dethroning Roman Reigns. What do you think? Will McIntyre be able to win the gold soon? Let us know in the comments.
