Cody Rhodes’ next title defense match against Logan Paul has largely been anticipated to be a flat call. Although the heated verbal exchanges between the two champions and the initial confusion regarding the stakes of the match set up the usual hype, the outcome is quite predictable. The idea of making Cody Rhodes lose in such a non-grandeur PLE and that too against a newbie Logan Paul makes zero sense. But what if it makes at least some sense in one certain condition? And what if that single condition contains The Rock’s strategic return to cost Rhodes the match? Looks feasible? Let’s dig a bit deeper to explore the possibilities.

Is The Rock coming to deprive Cody Rhodes of his title in the Saudi Arabian PLE?

Dwayne The Rock Johnson left the business with a subtle promise to come back to settle the dust with The American Nightmare. The Great One finally put Cody Rhodes in his place after weeks of abuse and termination in WrestleMania Night 1. To end it on a pleasant note, The Brahma Bull shared a cordial moment with his rival on Raw after WrestleMania but not without a grain of salt. He vowed to be back to finish his story with Rhodes, leading to the unbridled ‘Cody Rhodes’ vs The Rock singles anticipation spree. SummerSlam seems to be the ideal timeline for the event to take place as per the rumor mills. The wrapping up of the ‘Smashing Machine’ production might also play a factor in Johnson’s in-ring return as early as August.

To create a strong build on the road to the singles, WWE might tip them in opposites of each other in the upcoming King and Queen of the events in Saudi Arabia. In that vein, it’s not unfeasible for The Rock to cost Rhodes the title as part of a pre-war warning. While the angle is outright speculative at this point, when it’s WWE, the rule is to never say never.

Moving ahead, Cody Rhodes recently made a valid argument in support of his inevitable match against The Rock.

Cody Rhodes addresses the X factor of his potential match against The Rock

With fans already getting a taste of the intense bad blood flowing between Cody Rhodes’ and The Rock throughout the WrestleMania session, they want to taste it again. The Rock’s comeback promise post-WrestleMania fueled this urge, making the idea of a massive The Rock vs Rhodes a polarising concept.

Appearing on the Busted Open Radio, Rhodes noted it would be a match made in heaven for him as it would perfectly feature the differences and overlapping aspects between the Attitude era vs the current era. He also added that when it mattered, the WWE Universe chose him over The Final Boss to headline WrestleMania.

When the generational clash seems to be inevitable, the timeline might or might not be SummerSlam, especially given how veterans, including The Rock’s writer Brian Gerwitz, gave their seal of approval to a WrestleMania 41 brawl.
