John Cena likes to understand what the audience wants besides entertainment. As a result, it takes hard work and discipline to be able to communicate with his fans globally, especially with a language barrier.

Why is John Cena fluent in Chinese?

It’s widely known that The Champ is fluent in Mandarin. The primary reason he wanted to learn the language was to break the barrier between himself and the audience living in China.

“I started wanting to learn Mandarin to get our global company to be a true global company.”

As he learned the language, he started learning more about the culture and China. As a result, his appreciation and admiration for the culture increased.

To learn the language, Cena made time from his busy schedule. It’s not easy to learn any language, but when he took up the challenge, he knew it was time to master it.

“[I’m] fascinated with the language and has become obsessed with trying to learn it. … I don’t have a lot of free time, but when I do, for an hour or two of my day, a tutor comes over and we just talk.” H/t Sportskeeda

Not only did he put in the work with a tutor, but he used flashcards and watched Chinese TV to speed up his learning rate. He mastered it enough to address a press conference in Mandarin. And now, he’s fluent in it.

What did Cena apologize to China for?

Prior to F9, Cena revealed to a Taiwanese TV Station that Taiwan would be the first country to see F9. Unfortunately, China does not recognize Taiwan as a country, and this sparked some outrage.

However, The Champ sent out an apology as soon as he realized his mistake. It was entirely in Mandarin and he constantly apologized in this 68-second clip.
