The Riott Squad was given the Nexus treatment

The Riott Squad shook WWE fans with their arrival on SmackDown in November 2017. Many fans had hopes that this team would revolutionize the women’s division, but it had very intermittent activity, in the end being quickly destroyed by the Stamford-based promotion. They were too fixated on building storylines around individual superstars. The Riott Squad disbanded as a trio in 2020 with the dismissal of Sarah Logan, which later gave rise to the definitive dissolution with the dismissal of Ruby Riott. Leaving behind a big what-if like the WWE did with the Nexus.

In fact, Riott talked about their group’s breakup when she appeared on Talk is Jericho. She revealed that the trio was not supposed to be together as a faction for long. She said, “From what I was told, we weren’t supposed to be together for very long. We were supposed to debut together and then kind of split, but they liked us together, and we loved being together. And I think that was one of the things, because we didn’t think we were gonna last very long.”

She further added, “We didn’t change our individual characters, and we just kind of tried to get them to mesh together instead of, oh, we’re gonna try to make each other a faction. We’re like, okay, if we’re gonna get split up, we’re gonna stay who we are. And I think that’s what helped us is we had three individual characters that made sense somehow in a weird way that actually accented each other.” What do you think? Did the WWE make the wrong move by disbanding the faction? Let us know in the comments.
