In August 2020, Dwayne Johnson joined his ex-wife, Dany Garcia, and RedBird Capital to purchase Vince McMahon’s floundering NFL-esque company, XFL. After the league was resurrected, it recently completed its first season. However, in the wake of the conclusion of its first season, it was reported that the XFL suffered a loss of an estimated $60 million.

During a recent interview, Dany Garcia explained the real reason why sponsors would be willing to spend on the XFL going forward. Despite its massive loss, Dwayne Johnson and the company are looking to deliver multiple seasons in the years to come.

From a business standpoint, there’s no denying that much of Dwayne Johnson’s success is courtesy of his ex-wife Dany Garcia. The 54-year-old businesswoman possesses the necessary acumen to propel her companies to greater heights. Despite the fact that the XFL was a white elephant after its first season, the company is confident that it will be a success in the future.

During an interview with Forbes, Dany Garcia was asked why she believes sponsors would be willing to invest in the XFL in the wake of its $60 million loss. Garcia responded by saying that the XFL as a league creates opportunities. She relayed that the ultimate purpose of the league is to “unleash the dreams that football makes possible”.

She said, “We have an ultimate purpose to unleash the dreams that football makes possible. That ultimate purpose says, why do you deserve to be on this planet? That’s why we created an ultimate purpose. So, all of our executions lead towards that. If you’re aligning with a brand, do you not want to be a brand that not only is driven by ultimate purpose but says we are diversity?”

She went on to say that the XFL does not need to “reach” for sponsors. The XFL, according to Garcia, is well-established in terms of reach and diversity. Therefore, it gives a reason for the sponsors to invest in the company, per her. It is also worth noting that the league has employed some of the most brilliant minds and is well-funded.

While admitting that the XFL is well-capitalized, DJ believes that storytelling could add more depth to the league’s players. It could show the audience why the players matter. He said, “For me the superpower is the storytelling. Even though they may not be big stars, they may not be making $50M but they matter. They are working their a***s off.”

All things considered, Garcia and Dwayne Johnson are pretty confident about the future of their business. We will have to wait and see what the future season of XFL has to offer.
