‘Whoever Started This Didn’t Care but Falsehood Ruined Lives’: Melina Takes Aim at False Rumors of Cheating With 2X World Champion in Mid-2000s

WWE superstars are public figures and are often at the receiving end of criticism and a lot of negativity that can have serious consequences. Former WWE Women’s Champion Melina is among those who openly confessed to being affected by comments and rumors on social media that clearly went over the line.

The 44-year-old recently opened up about how the nasty rumors of her dating former 2-time WWE champion took a major toll on her mental health. Melina was accused of cheating on her partner, and it troubled her to the point where she considered taking her own life.

What led Melina to attempt suicide?

Melina was one of the most popular names on the WWE roster during her time. She received a massive push from the management and was always in the limelight. Winning the Divas Championship 2 times, and the Women’s Championship 3 times, Melina registered herself as a leading name in WWE. However, a Twitter account recently accused Melina of attracting a lot of heat from management due to personal issues. The social media handle accused her of cheating on her partner with former WWE champion, Batista.

Melina took notice of this and brought it up on social media. She also opened up on a sensitive issue related to the incident. Critics, and even fans, often take liberties to an extent that causes harm. Melina’s response was cause for concern and a call for self-examination and introspection.

Melina took to Twitter, and wrote, “Did you know I attempted suicide back then? I never want to talk about it or getting r*ped bcuz I don’t want it to be all people see when they look at me. I’m more than what happened to me. I know whoever started the rumors did’t care but these falsehoods ruined lives.”

Melina was accused of having an affair with Batista while being in a relationship with John Morrison. The two were rumored to be dating sometime around 2007. Accusations of infidelity were thrown at both Melina and Batista during the time they were friends. But nothing could be proven. The two continued to maintain a good friendship throughout their career, and still do so.

Although the false rumors took a severe toll on her mental health, Melina came back stronger and is enjoying her life outside of WWE. Melina’s tweet shows that the rumor affected her deeply. It is a clear message that people should know where to draw the line on social media.

Melina was accused of having attitude problems at WWE

Apart from rumors of dating a married man in Batista, Melina was also accused of having a problematic attitude. Speaking in an interview on ‘The Artist Version One’ a few years ago, the former Divas Champion revealed that certain names would approach and flirt with her and she would turn them down, leading to these rumors.

Melina said, “When people kind of like try to flirt with you or whatever and then you kind of have to turn them down because you’re taken. You never know their reaction. They hate me because I rejected them.”

She said she didn’t know the exact origin of these rumors about her attitude but believed someone jealous of her had something to do with it. Melina left WWE in 2011 and has since made a few sporadic appearances only.
