It is common to see children pursuing the same profession as their parents when they get older, and so this is somewhat true in Chris Jericho‘s case. The wrestler chose to be an athlete, much like his father. However, both sportspeople excelled in different games altogether. While Jericho established himself prominently in the wrestling world, his father is also a renowned name in sports.

The sports personality that you will get to learn a bit more about today is the NHL veteran Edward Amos Irvine. If you wondered where Jericho’s original Irvine family name comes from, now you have the answer.

Chris Jericho couldn’t live up to his father’s name

Despite his father being a sensation in the National Hockey League and representing various North American teams, Jericho didn’t inherit his talent for the sport. Instead, he went on to try his luck in wrestling, and it seemingly worked for him. Although Jericho is not the kind of wrestler to be called ‘generational’, he was still able to make a name for himself.

His father played in the NHL from 1964 to 1977. One fun fact about Jericho is that he is of Scottish ancestry because of his father. The father-son duo even look pretty similar when you compare their pictures, but the wrestler failed to inherit his hockey-playing genes. There have been numerous interviews in the past where Jericho confessed that he wasn’t a good player in the sport.

This is probably what led to him choosing an alternative route for himself instead of following in his father’s footsteps. His father is probably also interested in his profession as he came onto AEW during one of the episodes.

Chris Jericho once had a segment with his father

In January 2019, Tony Khan’s promotion saw Jericho coming on board to put the newly arranged wrestling promotion into motion. The Jacksonville-based company eventually started with new shows and events. This is the same year that they came up with the idea for AEW Dynamite. Once this idea was passed, wrestling fans started tuning in for the freshly baked weekly show in the market.

On the 9th edition of AEW Dynamite, they had a special guest in the form of Ted Irvine, the America-wide popular NHL star. The segment that he was included in was also interesting. He showed up on November 27, 2019, as a surprise guest for his son. The father-son duo got to celebrate Thanksgiving together on that episode. There were also hilarious moments, including the time when they were roasting the crowd.

The show was live from Chicago, and Irvine once played on the New York Rangers team. As part of that team, he defeated the Chicago Blackhawks multiple times. This became the basis of their jokes against the Chicago crowd present in the arena, making up for a fun night. Although this was a ‘once in a blue moon’ moment, fans must have liked it.
