“When Laila Called..”: Hulk Hogan on Muhammad Ali’s Daughter’s “Divine Intervention” That Saved His Life in 2009

Hulk Hogan is one of the most recognizable faces from the Golden Era of wrestling. His reach among the masses was so large that he was like a ray of hope. Hogan’s aura was one that made other people attracted to him like a moth to the flame. Not only was he acting as the light to many people’s tunnels, but he was also a great example for aspiring wrestlers and bodybuilders as well as children.

But every great hero also has his fall. And in 2009, this came for Hogan in the form of some of the darkest days in his life. A time in his life when he was ready to quit everything and just end it all. Even when his friends tried saving him from the darkness, Hogan decided to stay in it. Until one person stepped into his life and changed it for the better.

In the interview with Larry King, Hogan said, “I had several friends calling me. I had Bubba, a good friend of mine, called me. … Eric Bischoff called me. Thought I was doing a great job fooling them. I had no idea behind my back that they were all really worried about me. But I thought I was being a pretty good bluffer as I sat there and just didn’t know how to get it together. When Leila called me, she didn’t even really know me.”

“She was just worried about me. She saw me on the set of American Gladiators when I got hit with the divorce papers. Saw how lost I was, and she saw how I was acting. When I left the set, she called, and she was worried about me. And she invited me to her church and just out of nowhere it snapped me out of it. It was almost like I was rambling to pack my bags and just get out of the house and get back to LA.”

Ever since then, Hogan has been doing amazing in every venture that he went for. He even made up with WWE and works every once or so with the company.
