Jey Uso has become one of WWE’s most eye-catching Singles wrestler in recent times. After receiving betrayal from his brother Jimmy at SummerSlam 2023, the American professional wrestler found the main shots of Monday Night RAW alongside the public’s favorite faces on the show. It is evident that Uso has seen a notable increase in popularity, and one of the biggest credits for this can be given to his theme music as well as the overall vibe of his entrance with the iconic hand sign. But what is the story behind it? Let’s find out, shall we?

Jey Uso and the hip-hop hooray hand wave

When Jey Uso broke free from the Bloodline, he had to re-record his entrance theme- which previously contained parts with his twin brother Jimmy Uso. In an interview with Billboard, he revealed that he went back to New York and decided to remove parts of the original version. He kept some elements like “Day One Ish” and “Line ’em all up.”

However, he wanted to add a new beginning and worked with another person to find the right rhythm. Embracing the idea of being the main event, he worked on the music. That was when the ‘hand wave’ was born.

He said,  “Main Event Jey Uso is now in yo city!” I started yelling on there, and he’s plugging it in. Taking the old parts out and plugging in the new s–t. The beats were a little more tweaked. Other than that, I kept it to when I get on the turnbuckle — this part right here, no lyrics. This just needs to be the beat. This is where the hip-hop hooray hand wave or whatever you wanna call it comes from.”

He further revealed, “I wanted to incorporate the audience into it. It will make you say, “Ay.” I wanted to bleep all the lyrics out and just have the people getting involved here. Every second of that theme is timed to as soon as I hit the turnbuckle, they’re there with me. All timing, dog.” Well, this surely has worked wonders for him.

This has not only been demonstrated in public reactions but has also been reflected in the sale of merchandise. The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter revealed Jey Uso’s as the best-selling category in the first weeks of 2024. The wrestler beats out star names like CM Punk, Roman Reigns, and Cody Rhodes.

In terms of individual merchandising, ‘The Best in the World’ is one of the names with the most outstanding items, including T-shirts and sweatshirts with their logo and garments with the phrase Hell Froze Over. Punk is a close second to Jey Uso, who achieved a good amount of sales thanks to merchandising with the onomatopoeia ‘YEET’.
