Vince McMahon established his prowess as a needle mover for WWE. Since he took over the company in 1982, he has made a majority of decisions for the company. He was even at the forefront of the big merger with UFC. However, last year due to an aggressive back surgery, he had to take some rest. He returned to the forefront of operations in early 2023 before the talks of the merger even started. Since his return, there have been questions about whether he will get the same creative freedom he enjoyed before leaving. Nick Khan, the president of WWE, had shed some light on this aspect.
The president of WWE outlines Vince McMahon’s creative jurisdiction
Nick Khan was present on an episode of The Bill Simon’s podcast. When asked by Simon how things were with McMahon on the creative side after his, Khan made a few things very clear for everyone. Right off the bat, he said, “Well, look, I think there’s always a share with Vince.”, making it clear that McMahon is the primary mover on the creative front too. Khan went on to clarify this by giving an example from his initial days. Since his joining at WWE, Khan said that the organization is calibrated in its own ways.

He said that McMahon has allocated different responsibilities to different people and communicates accordingly with them. He said, “Vince has earned the right to call people about whatever he’d like to discuss as it relates to WWE. So he’ll call me with different business ideas that have happened. We’ll have a dialogue about it.”. He further added, “ He’s often in touch with Paul (Triple H) on the creative side and that’s what he’s earned.”, stating that the organization is designed in such a way that every decision has to go through him first.
Since his return, McMahon has been making massive changes. The primary example seen was John Cena’s comeback and The Rock’s surprise return. However, McMahon showed off his authoritative power way before these two came into the picture.
Vince McMahon used his authority to approve some massive changes
Since his return, McMahon is making sure he leaves no stone unturned. He made a massive last-minute change for the last week’s episode of RAW. This resulted in the return of a fan-favorite star, Nia Jax. Although it might seem as if it happened in a hurry, according to reports, WWE signed her a month in advance before her return. This all happened amidst the hiring freeze rumors.
But fans are not complaining as they are getting to see their favorite stars return to WWE. However, it should not be forgotten that he owns significantly fewer decision-making rights as compared to before the merger. This means that his hands are tied compared to before. Even if that is considered, he is making massive moves to the company and shocking fans with it. With Paul Levesque still looking over the creative side and McMahon in a new avatar, fans are eager to see what massive changes are to come to the promotion now after the merger.
