The Undertaker isn’t just a character for the WWE Universe.. it’s an emotion! The retired wrestler has given the fans a plethora of memories and has been a key individual in growing the company within the wrestling industry.
However, WWE wasn’t the only company that wanted Taker. WCW wanted him too. According to news, Kevin Nash revealed he wanted to bring The Deadman to WCW and offered him a chance to change his gimmick so he doesn’t hit a plateau.
Obviously it did not happen. However, had he moved to another gimmick, it could have robbed the wrestling fans of years of thrilling promos, unbelievable matches, and whatnot!

However, Alex McCarthy pointed out that there was some amount of truth in Kevin Nash’s comment about changing Taker’s gimmick. The former Superstar did change his gimmick To The American Badass for a while, taking a break from The Undertaker gimmick.
The Undertaker lost his WrestleMania streak because of Vince McMahon
If Goldberg had a streak at WCW, The Deadman was on a WrestleMania winning streak at WWE. Once he secured the victory at WrestleMania VII, it continued until WrestleMania 30.
During this he has defeated Superstars such as Randy Orton, Ric Flair, Triple H, and others.

Vince McMahon assumed WrestleMania 30 would be Taker’s last WrestleMania, and hence decided to have Brock Lesnar end it. McMahon talked Taker into it, but before going through with it, Taker reconfirmed with McMahon.
Moreover, McMahon wanted Lesnar to defeat Taker to present him as the top heel of the roster. Unfortunately, as of now neither do Taker nor do Lesnar work with WWE.
I see some replies saying the gimmick worked out great for The Undertaker – which it did – but you could argue the sabbatical as The American Badass for three/four years was crucial to extending his legs as The Deadman.
