Stone Cold Steve Austin needs no introduction whatsoever. He is undoubtedly one of the most easily recognizable WWE Superstars. After all, his popularity was off the charts, and there has been no one who has even come close. What made him special was his attitude, his promo skills, and of course, the iconic Stunner!
The stunner took Austin’s popularity to greater heights. In fact, the move is forever immortalized as the who’s who in WWE have succumbed to it.

The first-ever Stone Cold Steve Austin Stunner!
As we all know, there’s always a first-time for everything, including the Stunner. The ‘Texas Rattlesnake‘ first hit the move in a King of the Ring Quarter Final match against Savio Vega. In fact, he defeated Vega with that very move!
If we look at the move closely, he didn’t really execute it the way he eventually did. There was no kick in the gut followed by a stunner. Instead, it was more of a sitting cutter. Either way, it served its purpose and gave him wins against the top stars in WWE.

Steve Austin used the Stun Gun and Cobra Clutch as his finishing moves before adapting the stunner. What’s iconic is King of the Ring 1996 was in all ways made for Austin to become a megastar. After all, it was the King of the Ring where he introduced the stunner, and also his ‘Stone Cold’ persona. Or shall we say, the birth of Austin 3:16?
The Stone Cold Stunner wasn’t Austin’s brainchild. In fact, it was Michael ‘P.S.’ Hayes who came up with the move when Austin was looking for a new finisher in his arsenal. The WWE Hall of Famer has revealed he wanted a move that would be easy to execute on any opponent, but would also be extremely fatal and that’s what he got.
Austin’s Stunner has taken down the biggest stars in the business, even The Undertaker! Yes, the ‘Deadman’ lost clean as a whistle to Austin after getting hit with the Stunner.

Mind you, if we have to consider Taker’s clean losses then we’d end up with only a handful matches. And that is enough to ascertain the greatness and fatality of the Stone Cold Stunner.
