CM Punk and Jeff Hardy put the audience on the edge of their seats when they started their match at SummerSlam 2009 main event. Keeping everything else aside, the match was a refreshing change of pace for the WWE Universe from seeing the usual faces headline main events.

Now, coming to the feud first, Punk had turned heel in the summer of 2009. He used his pure lifestyle to put down Hardy owing to his struggles with addiction. The rivalry started taking over the WWE Universe and it dominated television all the way up to SummerSlam 2009.

Prior to the match, Jeff Hardy was the World Heavyweight Champion. He agreed to put his title on the line but in a match that he specializes in – a TLC match. This stipulation added an intensity to the match, which wouldn’t otherwise have been possible.

Coming to the match, while Hardy was a pro at Tables, Ladders, and Chairs matches, Punk really stepped up to it. Both of them took brutality to the next level and worked a match which was filled with risks. However, it was these risks that made it a success, of course, with all credit going to the pro-wrestlers.

The victor at that match was CM Punk, who wanted to reclaim the World Heavyweight Championship title by hook or by crook! And he did. Nevertheless, Hardy’s contributions to making the match one of the best in TLC and SummerSlam history weren’t overlooked.

The WWE Universe praised both of them for the way they clicked in the ring and conducted the match.

CM Punk experienced a scary moment against Jeff Hardy

During the match, Jeff Hardy had climbed the ladder to jump on CM Punk. At that point, he had to lie on the table below for an extended period. Punk realized Hardy was quite high up and he had to take the bump and protect Hardy at all costs.

However, at that point, he also knew how much it would hurt him when a 200 pound man jumped on him from a considerable height. And it hurt him.

While both of them got hurt in that match, none of them backed down. It’s a match worth a re-watch!
