This week’s SmackDown saw the return of Paul Heyman. WWE’s best advocate had disappeared from TV programming after Wrestlemania 36 when his client lost the WWE Championship to Drew McIntyre.Heyman didn’t just return, but he also aligned himself with the returning Roman Reigns.

As we reported earlier, in a shocking turn of events, Paul Heyman is now Roman Reigns’ ‘advocate.’ This further confirmed Roman Reigns’ heel status and increased his chances to win the Universal Championship on Sunday at Payback.

However, it seems WWE ‘predicted’ this alliance two years ago. WWE shared a throwback post from 2018 to commemorate the association.

During Roman Reigns’ feud with Brock Lesnar at that time, Paul Heyman offered to be Reigns’ ‘advocate.’ This was Heyman’s attempt to survive in WWE as Lesnar and Heyman seemingly headed towards a split.

In June, Heyman was removed from his Raw Executive Director position. Heyman is now with the company as an on-air character.

Fans React To The Throwback

Now that Reigns is a “Paul Heyman guy,” we can safely say WWE is not shying away from bold moves. We don’t have confirmation if Paul Heyman will accompany Roman Reigns on WWE Payback or not.

However, having one of the best in the business by his side increases Roman’s chances; both as a heel and as a competitor.
