Long before Moana and Disney came knocking on the Great One‘s doorsteps for the role of Maui, there was The Game Plan. In a movie that sees a high-profile football player deal with his recently discovered daughter, there is an emotional moment involving Elvis Presley, Dwayne Johnson, and Are You Lonesome Tonight.

After a fight with his daughter, the Rock sulks in a corner. Being a huge fan of the ‘King of Rock and Roll’, Johnson’s character takes out his guitar. In performing Are You Lonesome Tonight, we can see that the neck of the guitar had Elvis Presley inscribed on it. The movie didn’t perform very well at the box office, but it showed a softer side of DJ.

While Dwayne Johnson’s singing isn’t new, this part clearly justifies Disney’s casting him in an animated movie musical. Fans will forever remember the role he played in Moana as Maui. He clearly resonated with the target audience of the movie and it was a massive hit. Another instance of The Rock’s singing can be found in the movie Journey 2: The Mystery Island. Here he performs an improvised version of the Louis Armstrong classic, What a Wonderful World.
