Drew McIntyre began his professional career in 2002, wrestling for several Scottish promotions before signing with WWE in 2007. McIntyre left the company in 2014 to return to the independent circuit, where he managed to achieve great status. WWE rehired him in 2017. Since then, he has become one of the company’s greatest talents. He is currently one of the major figures on Monday Night Raw. But it wasn’t always like this, as Drew McIntyre earned his marching orders from WWE 10 years ago. A moment that marked a turning point in his career.
McIntyre once joked about the news as ‘another’ of the talents fired from WWE in a batch of outings. The Scotsman initially signed with WWE in 2007 and was introduced as an up-and-coming talent. Even being labeled ‘The Chosen One’ by Vince McMahon. However, after a great start, his WWE career began to wane. He found himself relegated to less prominent roles, participating in the comedy group 3MB alongside Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal.
In June 2014, the Scotsman was released from his contract with WWE, a move that, while disappointing, provided him with the opportunity to reinvent himself on the independent circuit. But do you know that his personal life had a lot to do with him getting relegated from the ‘Chosen One’ in the first place? Well, back in 2009, he got into a relationship with former WWE diva Taryn Terrell, aka Tiffany. Taryn Terrell was known in wrestling for having been part of WWE, TNA (Impact Wrestling), and NWA. She signed with WWE in 2008 and trained in Florida Championship Wrestling for two years until she moved up to the main roster.

The two then got engaged in July 2009. Soon the wedding bells rang as the duo got married in Las Vegas back in May 2010. However, things ended between the two, as announced on May 24, 2011, after news of some domestic dispute between the two came to light. This impacted McIntyre’s run, as WWE was already getting complaints from management about McIntyre being high maintenance. With these new reports, they decided to relegate the superstar, and soon enough, he was let go from the promotion! But being the Scottish Warrior that he is, he soon turned things around again.
McIntyre’s redemption arc
Following his departure from WWE, McIntyre returned to his birth name, Drew Galloway. He began appearing in several independent promotions around the world. Including Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) in Scotland, Evolve in the US, and What Culture Pro Wrestling (WCPW) in England. He also had a significant stint with TNA, where he won the World Championship. During this time, Drew not only improved his in-ring skills but also developed a charisma and microphone presence that he had not been able to fully display during his first stint in WWE.

In April 2017, Drew McIntyre made his return to WWE. But this time, he started in NXT, the company’s developmental brand. His return was announced with great impact during NXT TakeOver: Orlando. In NXT, the former WWE World Heavyweight champion showed a new intensity and maturity, which quickly led him to win the NXT Championship. His success in NXT was a harbinger of things to come. Now, he is one of the top stars in the promotion and will soon get to prove his might again on SummerSlam.

However, for now, he remains kayfabe suspended. McIntyre refused to apologize to the referees assaulted by him at WWE Money in the Bank 2024. So Adam Pearce decided to keep his suspension in place until he apologized. The Scotsman instead demanded that the one who should apologize be CM Punk. Love him or hate him, one cannot deny the fact that McIntyre has truly come a long way from being the 3MB jobber that he once was.
