Vince McMahon might be a certified villain to most of the men on the roster, but not to all. We better remember the stance that says every coin has two sides before marking him as a heel for life in reality. That said, even if we fail to consider it, forgotten superstar Ken Patera is here to shed light on a lesser know side of McMahon

Vince McMahon played a guardian angel’s role during a testing phase in the 79-year-old former Intercontinental Champion’s life. During a recent exclusive interview, the veteran spilled the beans.

Ken Patera, dubbed as Olympic Strongman, made quite a name in the WWE world during his heyday. But a grueling legal scuffle found him in deep water back in 1984. He and fellow superstar Masa Saito committed a criminal offense by vandalizing a McDonald’s for not paying heed to their demands.

They were sentenced to two years of imprisonment. It was the time when McMahon did Patera a huge favor by sending money regularly to his family.

Recalling that unforgettable favor from the notorious WWE boss, the former WWE star noted, ”Vince was sending my wife money every month. I went from making 35 – 40,000 a month to nothing. So now she’s cut off. I talked to him from prison and he said, ‘Don’t worry, Ken. I’ll take care of her and the kids, so he had his accountant send her a check every month. I don’t even remember how much it was. It added up, though.” This sheds a different light on McMahon and reveals a side of him that is often less talked about.

However, despite helping him in need, McMahon failed to afford a spot in the promotion for him immediately after he got out of prison.

However, as he dipped a low in his career and life due to a police case, it didn’t remain the same for the Oregon native.

He recalled McMahon took time to offer him his spot back in the company, as there was no vacant place left for him to jump on.

Reflecting McMahon’s immediate response after his demand to rejoin the company, Patera noted, ”When I got out of prison a year and a half later, he called me and said, ‘Ken, we don’t have a place for what I want to do with you. We don’t have a place right now.’ I got out in December. ‘Can you wait until April’, I believe it was, and I said, ‘Yeah. No problem. You know when the time’s right.” However, he had a memorable tour of Vince McMahon’s grand house shortly after and regained his mojo in the promotion within months, as promised.
